2020 Letter – Year in Review

December, 2020

Dear Friend,

I hope that you and your loved ones are doing well and staying safe during this utterly unprecedented time. Because of your generous support, this has been another amazing year for Time’s Up! Environmental Organization and our planet—and for that, we thank you. Every day, more people are becoming aware of the urgency of climate change and how their actions affect local and global conditions; they are also seeking out safe, sustainable, and socially conscious methods of transportation. As we celebrate the beginning of another year, we would like to take this opportunity to invite you to our annual Future Positive New Year’s Eve Bike Ride and outdoor after party.

We should all be very proud of ourselves. Despite the current negative and divisive climate, we have been able to keep our events and campaigns positive, and our volunteers have helped keep many vital community spaces open to the public even during this pandemic. In the upcoming year, we are going to expand our positive events and campaigns in hopes of combating negativity, fear, and division.

As uprisings and social movements enlighten millions to the importance of social justice and sustainable practices in all facets of life, our 33 years of grassroots-level experience allows us to continue to make headway and inspire: and with your continued support, we have been able to help create sustainable infrastructure, advocate for green urban planning, and greatly increase bike ridership. As we enter 2021, we’re excited to continue this progress and support the growth of the bike community.

TIME’S UP! has spent much of the past year addressing the most urgent needs in our community. The good news is that many of our campaigns that we worked on years ago are now paying off and helping to save our cities and support essential workers. Indeed, these efforts are keeping New Yorkers safe from the ravages of COVID-19: because we have expanded auto-free plazas, streets, bike lanes, and greenways, many of us are able to get around safely; at the same time, restaurants and community businesses have been able to expand into newly auto-free streets. With your support and volunteer assistance, we will be stepping up our efforts in promoting non polluting transportation, new auto-free streets, and sustainable urban design in the future. We will also be hosting additional classes, workshops, and bike rides geared towards empowering the dramatic increase of new cyclists.

Along with our partner institution, the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space, our volunteers have also been supporting local community gardens through garden green-ups and socially-distanced community workshops on composting, honey-beekeeping, bike-repair, and medicinal herbs. As part of this long-term commitment, we have been organizing and fighting to save these gardens and keep them in community hands.

Your continued tax-deductible support for Time’s Up! will help our educational and outreach efforts. The Planet needs us!
