The April Critical Mass ride went off comparatively smoothly last Friday night. Some 400 cyclists pedaled out of Union Square for the monthly ride. The police reported one arrest for disorderly conduct and said 11 summonses were issued for various traffic violations.

Before the ride, a popular topic of discussion was the upcoming Sixth Annual Bicycle Film Festival. The festival will be held from May 10-14 at the Anthology Film Archives at 32 Second Ave. in the East Village. The festival, billed as “a celebration of bicycles through film, art and music,” will screen films from around the world.

One of the highlights will be the premiere of “Criminal Mass” by Christopher Ryan, one of the producers of the “Still We Ride” documentary and an East Village resident. Ryan’s film is an examination of the current state of Critical Mass rides in New York.
