Time’s Up! has been working with gardeners and the community to save the Children’s Magical Garden de Carmen Rubio. This garden grows on land at the corner of Stanton and Norfolk Streets, 2/3 belongs to the city and 1/3 belongs to a developer. The garden became endangered when the city and developer proposed a luxury apartment building on the garden’s site. We have fought back by continuing to work in the garden and encouraging the community to join us. We have also spoken and shown a video about the garden at community board meetings. We have gained the support of the community, elected officials and the press.

In the spirit of Brad Will, who fought for green spaces and community in the East Village and around the world, Time’s Up! encourages everyone to support your community gardens. Over 50 NYC community gardens are endangered, today! For more about garden activism at Time’s Up! email xupgardening@gmail.com.
