New York, NY (December 8, 2009) — On Sunday, December 13th, the Time’s Up! Bicycle Clown Brigade, defenders of NYC bike lanes, will join other cyclists in a New Orleans-style “funeral procession” followed by a vigil, for the 14 blocks removed from the Bedford bike lane.  Harnessing the power of the cycling community, they will perform a mock ceremony to resurrect the section of the missing bike lane between Flushing & Division avenues in South Williamsburg.

“The Mayor is backpedaling on his promise to green the city and ripping out our beloved bike lanes from under us.  Bike lanes need to be improved, not removed,” says Time’s Up! volunteer, Barbara Ross.

The Bicycle Clowns will use theater to draw attention to the serious danger faced by cyclists without safe, protected bike lanes.

“According to a recent Hunter College study there is a 60% chance of a cyclist being obstructed by a car in a bike lane.  Instead of taking away the bike lanes, the Mayor should be pushing the NYPD to enforce the laws against parking in the bike lane,” explained Hank ‘Tears of a Clown’ Clown, aka Benjamin Shepard.
