Brooklyn, NY (March 2, 2009) For over 20 years, pioneer, volunteer-run environmental organization Time’s Up! has been working on promoting environmental awareness and non-polluting transportation.
Time’s Up!’s wide range of organized group bicycle rides has attracted thousands of new cyclists, which has in turn encouraged others to ride and become everyday commuters. The increase in ridership pressures the city to increase infrastructure – which can be seen throughout Manhattan and its surrounding boroughs.
In order to better support the rapidly growing cycling community, Time’s Up! is expanding to Brooklyn. Free educational workshops in the new Brooklyn space located at 99 South 6th Street at the foot of the Williamsburg Bridge – the most-used bridge by new cyclists – begin March 1st with new hours:
Sundays, 2-4pm: Lessons/Classes
Sundays, 4-6pm: Open Workshop
Wednesdays, 6:30-8:30pm: Open Workshop
It is important that cyclists learn how to maintain and fix their bicycles, and become more self-sufficient while also learning about community building, volunteering, and the larger picture. “Time’s Up!’s educational workshops,” says Executive Director Bill DiPaola, “have empowered individuals in taking a step closer towards becoming more sustainable citizens who use and advocate for this form of non-polluting transportation.”

The celebration is also a tribute to the organization’s volunteer instructors and bike mechanics who have reached their 700th workshop, which includes a four-year-old weekly women-only workshop.
