Bike CO-OP

Want to learn how to fix your bike?

Every 1st & 3rd Saturday at 1-2PM in Manhattan (La Plaza Community Garden) we have outdoor bike repair classes which introduce basics of bicycle maintenance. Every Wednesday and Sunday are open workshops where you can bring your own bicycle and work on it yourself with the aid of Time’s Up! mechanics. Check below for details, locations and hours.

Contact our Time’s Up! mechanics for any questions regarding workshop schedules, miscellaneous bike repair, donating to our wishlist or becoming a volunteer mechanic at: xupbicyclecoop@gmail.com

All workshops and classes are free. Shop users are encouraged to make an optional donation of $2–5 per visit, or to become a contributing member of the bike co-op with a $20 annual donation.

Donations and Bike Co-op Wishlist

Due to space constraints, we only accept donations of bikes or bike parts that are in good working condition and easily sellable. Please email xupbicyclecoop@gmail.com or speak with a volunteer before bringing in bikes or parts for donation.

As a working bike shop, the co-op is always in need of common supplies such as tools, lubricant, cleaning supplies, bicycle repair stands, clean rags, and paper towels. Please speak with a volunteer or email us if you have any of these items to donate!

Description of Workshops and Classes

Bike Repair ClassesBike Class

Every 1st & 3rd Saturday at 1-2PM at La Plaza Community Garden, 9th St and Ave C in Manhattan. Classes are free and open to all levels of experience and expertise. Most classes provide a general overview of bicycle diagnostics and repair, though advanced topics may be scheduled if requested. We cannot guarantee that attendees will have time to fix their own bikes during class (open workshops are the time for this), but attendees are encouraged to bring their own bikes to class if possible to support applied learning.

Fix-Your-Own-Bike Repair Workshops

Every Wednesday and Sunday at 5-8 PM at Time’s Up’s location at 626 E 14th St. This is an open shop in which you may use our tools and bike stands to work on your bike. Experienced volunteer mechanics will be present to answer any questions you may have, but they will not do the work for you. If you have a big project, please be considerate of the time and plan ahead.

Becoming a Time’s Up! Bike Co-op Volunteer

Bike workshop. Tubular.

Time’s Up! is an all-volunteer environmental education and direct action non-profit group. Our Bike Co-op’s goal is to give everyone enough knowledge to maintain their bikes, and hopefully, teach others to do the same.

There are many ways that you can volunteer and help Time’s Up!’s Bike Co-op. First and foremost, Time’s Up! relies on a strong membership base, so if you have not joined already, please do so at our Membership Page. If you are interested in becoming a mechanic, or in helping out with bicycle repair at the weekly workshops, e-mail xupbicyclecoop@gmail.com or drop by the Manhattan space (626 E 14th St.) on Wednesday or Sunday afternoons. We’ll pair you with a current mechanic so you can learn the ropes of the space and gain hands-on maintenance skills. If you cannot schedule a specific time for a committed volunteership, you can volunteer on an impromptu basis.

If you are interested in helping out at one of Time’s Up!’s group rides or other outdoor activities, e-mail timesup.events@gmail.com. Otherwise, the best thing you can do to help out is show up to the workshops and events regularly. There’s always ample opportunity to contribute and make a difference!
