December, 2024
Dear Friends and Supporters,
Given that our newly elected administration has a long history of science and climate change denial, environmental organizations like Time’s UP need your support to preserve environmental achievements and protections won by activists. Environmental solutions have always come from the grassroots; now more than ever it is important to endorse these efforts in the face of a government that has campaigned on devaluing the environment fiscally and culturally.
As we move towards 2025, please take a moment of your time to make a tax deductible donation today here. We are excited to share the incredible milestones that Time’s UP has achieved with your support!
This year marks a significant moment in our journey: we celebrate 20 years of community impact through our bicycle co-op and weekend garden Green Up Days. Over the past two decades, our bicycle co-op has empowered more than 45,000 individuals through over 2,500 workshops and classes, teaching essential skills for bike repair and maintenance. This vibrant community initiative has fostered a love for cycling and increased sustainable transportation in New York City.
In addition, our community garden efforts have reached another remarkable milestone: 1,000 Green Up Days, engaging over 10,000 volunteers. These garden Green Up days not only help maintain and protect existing community gardens but also allow us to establish new ones. Participants learn about food growing, composting, water recovery systems, and the importance of biodiversity, contributing to a greener, more sustainable city. And with your continued support, we’ll be able to keep these crucial programs going, especially as the city is introducing threatening initiatives such as Order 43, targeting our parks and gardens. Check out our timeline of accomplishment.
This year, we partnered with the Museum of Reclaimed Urban Space to host our annual outdoor film festival, “Every Little Thing Adds Up.” The films highlight urban grassroots environmental activism—revealing how community organizing, direct action, and education have led to a more sustainable city and eventually helped to combat climate change.
In 2024, we organized over 375 events, including campaigns, workshops, bike rides, garden Green Ups, exhibits, school programs, and sustainable walking tours. Each event strengthens our community and promotes awareness about the pressing environmental challenges we face.
We’d like to invite you to join us for our New Year’s Eve Bike Ride and After Party Celebration, where we’ll share more about our initiatives and how you can help. As we move into 2025, we remain committed to our mission and need your support to sustain our missions. Please donate here. All donations come with a one-year membership.
Together, we can continue to build a more sustainable New York City and empower future generations. Thank you for being an essential part of our journey.
With gratitude,
Bill Di Paola
