Doggie Pedal Parade
DOGGIE PEDAL PARADE
Sunday, May 31, 2009
Meet 2:00 PM at the Tompkins Square Park Dog Run, near Avenue A and 9th Street
Bring your dog and bicycle to the second annual Doggie Pedal Parade. We will ride our dogs in baskets and trailers, listen to doggie tunes playing on the music bike, and end at Washington Square Park for a party complete with donated tofu dogs, vegan cookies, snacks and drinks for all.
The ride will highlight bicycles adapted to transport pets (see 5/28 pup your ride workshop) as well as the benefits of adopting homeless animals.
If you don't have a dog you can still join the ride - put on your best set of whiskers or join the Safety Pooch Patrol to help escort the ride.
If you don't ride a bike, you and your dog can still join us at the end-of-the-ride party at Washington Square dog run, starting at approximately 3:30 PM. Rain date June 14, 2009.
To prevent any Ruff Riding and for the fun and safety of the group, non-social pets are asked to stay at home.

HOW CAN I TRANSPORT MY PETS USING GREEN TRANSPORTATION?
Most pets are not allowed on mass transit in New York City (unlike in Europe) but here are some environmental ways you and your pet can get around town.
Take a Pedicab. Pedicabs are generally more dog-friendly than yellow cabs.
Use a bicycle. Small dogs can ride in a bike basket; big dogs can ride in a bike trailer. Burley makes the “Tail Wagon”, which is a bicycle trailer made specifically for pets.
Get a custom-made bike for you and your dogs. George Bliss is a bike designer who has custom-made bicycles for pet owners to ride their dogs in style. For more information go to The Hub at 73 Morton St., NY, NY.
Contact professional dog trainer, Jeannie Hughes, who can discuss the different options for transporting or biking with your dog. She'll also give you training tips in helping your dog enjoy a trailer, run alongside you, and stay cool during the summer heat.
