Event Details :: Post-Critical Mass Still We Ride viewing

Title:../index.php?page=video-screenings
Date:Friday, April 24th, 2009
Time:8:30 PM
Location:NYU Kimmel Building, 60 Washington Square South, Room 802
Summary:Post-ride screening and discussion with food, hosted by NYU Earth Matters Environmental Club.
Details:The story begins on Friday August 27th, 2004, in New York City, just days before the start of the Republican National Convention when 264 people were arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and parading without a permit during the monthly bicycle celebration. But unlike the majority of the RNC-related arrests, which have been dismissed, bicycle-related arrests and bike seizures at monthly Critical Mass rides have persisted. The monthly pattern of confrontation has forced the bike community into a legal battle with the city and has politicized the once celebratory ritual.

STILL WE RIDE is a documentary that chronicles the police crackdown and resulting court battles in New York over first twelve months. The movie takes on issues of civil liberties, surveillance, the power of mainstream media, and the benefits of alternative means of transportation.
